Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is Christ-Centered Change (CCC)?
CCC is an amazing journey in an open-group counseling type of setting that is designed to equip and empower people with the necessary tools to affect permanent life-change. Thinking drives our behavior. Therefore, a primary goal of CCC is to teach and model how to practically and effectively “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5b). It is our belief that through openness and receptivity to feedback, practicing spiritual disciplines, completing thinking reports and journaling exercises, learning to identify thought distortions, red flag situations, and interventions, and MOST importantly, doing so in a Biblically-based, grace-oriented, and Spirit-empowered manner, you CAN change the way you think and behave.

2.  Why do I need it?
Due to the effects of hurt, pain, and sin, we view life through a broken and distorted lens. If we can learn to identify the root cause of our distorted thinking and the lies we’ve believed, we can then learn how to align our thinking and behavior with the truth of God’s Word,  character, and nature.

3.  How will this class help me?
Freedom from hurt, pain, and addiction.  Pro-social thinking and behavior.  Personal, spiritual, and emotional  growth and healing resulting in improved communication skills and enhanced relationships.

4. What Does the program consist of?

Phase One- Where the fundamentals of the Program are taught.
Phase Two-The CCC Curriculum is taught in depth and each student learns and implements tools for successful life change.
Phase Three-  The advanced portion of CCC where the tools are implemented and the majority of the cycle work is completed.

What People Are Saying About CCC

I developed an addiction to pornography at a young age. I found a magazine in a field near our house and kept it. Throughout the following years, I sort of acquired more magazines and then movies; it just kind of escalated from that one magazine. I think it turned into a way for me to share or release my emotions, because my family never really shared how they were feeling and what was going on it was all swept under the rug...

I have been taking Christ Centered Change (CCC) for over 2 years now.  I initially joined the class to ‘support’ my husband as I believed he needed it more than I did. The truth was we both desperately needed it as we had been married for only a short while and were struggling blending our lives together and were both very hurt by one another.  I have realized so much about myself through being in the class for 2 years now.  I realized that I have the ability to confront people as I used to fear doing, I learned that I have the ability to set boundaries with people, I realized that I am valuable and people care about my life although too many times I try to hide behind a smile and “I’m good”....

"God, I trust You.  That is a seemingly simple phrase, but when I chose to let it actively become my daily intervention, I found my life actually changing.  Suddenly my world went from being me-centered to being God-centered.  I uttered this phrase multiple times a day for close to six months.  Initially it was because I needed to tell myself that life really wasn’t all about me, but it became my instantaneous lifeline to God.  As the weeks passed, I began to say it with my whole heart behind it, and then I stood back in awe as God honored the trust that I had so willingly placed in Him...."

"I was raised in an environment of complete deception. To the point that I wasn’t even sure I really existed by the time I was an adult. Everything was right as long as we could justify the reasons for acting utterly insane. It was in a communist-style religion. It is really hard for me to sort out what caused so much turmoil within our home. I see my upbringing completely differently than the rest of my family does. The only difference I can pinpoint was that I gave my life to Christ when I was seven years old and they never did....."

“I had a lot of hurt, fear, and anger towards my dad. James taught me to be real, trust again, and not fear confrontation. CCC gave me the tools to intervene on my victim pattern of thinking with “alternative beliefs”. I recently decided it’s time to send a letter expressing my feelings and extending forgiveness to my dad.” – Becky
-------------------------
“I took CCC because I was unable to control my desire for partying and relations with men. I’ve learned that I fail to take responsibility for my actions and I have “shoulds” (ironclad expectations I place upon others). God is gently healing me and has shown me how to intervene with grace through thinking reports and journaling. I was in denial and I never would have gotten to this place without James and CCC pulling the band-aid off the infested gash my decisions had created. Everyone needs something like CCC.” – Jessie
-------------------------
“I was a victim of emotional and sexual abuse growing up which resulted in many self-destructive behaviors that led me to a mental hospital. I’ve come a long way, but still struggle with O.C.D., an eating disorder, and communicating in healthy ways. In CCC, I’ve learned I’m no longer a victim, to take accountability for myself, and to reach out for help. I’m also learning to communicate appropriately, identify red flags, intervene more often, and how to 'take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ'.” – JoLynn
-------------------------
“CCC gave me the tools to work on my life, confront my fears and better my walk with Christ by giving me a safe environment to open up and confess hidden sin. My life and marriage are far better in large part to CCC.” – Randy
-------------------------
“I struggled with intimacy with men and wanted to break the unhealthy cycle. CCC has taught me the journey God’s got me on is not a “quick fix”, but rather a life-long process; I have to do the work consistently if I want to change. I have never examined my life more thoroughly than this class is forcing me to do, and it’s teaching me to be real and not fake it. I now see how every person would benefit immensely from CCC.” – Elva
-------------------------
“My new marriage was in crisis and I took CCC to “support him". I quickly realized how much I struggled with fear, avoided confrontation, and stuffed my feelings until I’d exploded with unresolved anger and resentment. CCC revealed my pride and procrastination, taught me how to set and enforce healthy boundaries, and how to identify and intervene on the lies I’ve chosen to accept.” – Elyce
